Accessing America Online (AOL) by connecting through The Internet Connection

is faster and better than dialing into the AOL access number.

In order to access AOL through The Internet Connection you will need the following:

 

AOL FOR INTERNET CONNECTION WINDOWS USERS:

America Online for windows version 2.5 or higher

Winsock. DLL 1.1 (this comes with AOL Ver 3.0)

An Internet Connection account

 

AOL FOR INTERNET CONNECTION MAC USERS:

AOL for Mac version 2.5 or higher

Mac TCP

An Internet Connection account

How do I connect?
Step 1:

Log on to The Internet

You must dial into and log on to The Internet Connection before you sign on to AOL.

(This allows your computer to accept TCP/IP connections.)

 

Step 2: Configure AOL to connect via TCP/IP
Windows -- To configure AOL to connect via The Internet Connection using TCP/IP:
1.  Sign off America Online.
2. On the AOL Sign On screen, click Setup.
3.  Click Edit Location.
4. In the Network list box, click TCP/IP.
5. Click Save.

AOL 3.0 for Macintosh -- To configure AOL to connect via The Internet Connection (using TCP/IP):

Sign off America Online.

On the Sign on Screen, select TCP (The Internet Connection) from the Select Location drop-down box.

AOL 2.6/2.7 for Macintosh -- To configure AOL to connect via The Internet Connection (using TCP/IP):

Sign off America Online.

2. On the Sign on Screen, select TCP Connection from the Locality drop-down box.

 

Step 3: Log on to AOL via The Internet Connection

Make sure you are connected to The Internet Connection

Log on to America Online with your TCP/IP configuration. (If you hear the modem dial after you click the SIGN ON button in AOL, you are NOT connecting via TCP/IP.

Make sure the NETWORK box says TCP/IP in your setup as per Step 2.

 

This process will not interfere with the use of other Internet tools such as:

Browsers, Email clients, Newsgroup clients, ICQ or Mirc settings or capability
